Ziggurats were very important in the development in religion in Mesopotamia. A Ziggurat is a temple where it was believed where the Gods lived. The Ziggurat is so important and sacred that only People in the Upper Class or Priest could go into a Ziggurat. A Ziggurat looked almost like an Egyptian Pyramids but a Ziggurat had stairs and 1 small opening at the top. Ziggurats were made out of mud brick and sandstone. Also built by the slaves and if they messed up they would be beaten or killed. This is how important and sacred a Ziggurat is.
You may ask what is believed about the Ziggurats and who are these Gods that live in Mesopotamia? It is believed that there was statue figures made out of stone and painted that were symbols as the Gods. Inside the Ziggurat it was very beautiful and very quiet. This was important to the worshiping process. One of the Gods was Ishkur. Ishkur is the God of storm; he is usually seen holding a lighting fork that symbolized his power of the forces of nature. Another one of the Gods is Amurru. Amurru is the God of the Nomadic Peoples. He is usually seen with a gazelle and a shepherds crook. The people were happy when the Gods were happy. When the Gods were happy this meant that they would be blessed for plenty of years. The Ziggurat is the most important contribution to Religion in Mesopotamia.
